To commemorate a momentous 45 years in business, Pexhurst reunited with former client Dave Cornell, who now runs the award-winning Poppyland Brewery, to create a limited edition ‘Pexhurst 45’ Gin.
Throughout the past 45 years, Pexhurst have developed strong and long-standing relationships within our client base. Pexhurst are still in contact with one of our first ever industrial clients from the late 1990s, Dave Cornell who then worked for Bucknall Austin (now Rider Levett Bucknall).
Reflecting on his relationship with Pexhurst’s late Managing Director John Vella, Dave Cornell commented: “The thing that struck me immediately about John, besides the fact he was an extremely affable man, was his willingness to be involved with the client, understanding their vision and executing the works in a totally non-confrontational way; always putting the client’s interests at the heart of the project.”
The team had a wonderful full circle moment where the opportunity to collaborate with Dave Cornell again, who now runs Poppyland Brewery, materialised. Dave remarked, “After 45 years in the construction industry, I decided to change direction and took over Poppyland Brewery and Distillery in Cromer, I had kept in touch with Martin, John Vella’s son and now Managing Director at Pexhurst, and it was with great excitement when his daughter, Kayla, suggested a collaboration to mark the 45th anniversary of Pexhurst.”
Pexhurst worked alongside Poppyland Brewery to create a limited-edition batch of bespoke ‘Pexhurst 45’ gin. The 200 bottles produced are equivalent to 147 litres, or two bathtubs worth of gin!
The ‘East Coast Dry Gin’ which Pexhurst used for the ‘Pexhurst 45’ gin, was a bronze award winner at the IWSC (International Wine and Spirit Competition) this year. This was an amazing achievement given that the competition received over 4,000 entries from 90 countries.
Commenting on working with Pexhurst again after many years, Dave said: “It has been both a pleasure and an honour to work with three generations of the ‘Pexhurst Clan’ and I hope they enjoy the gin as much as we enjoyed making it.”
