Dan Flint Celebrates 15 years with Pexhurst!

To mark this impressive milestone, we caught up with Dan to hear more about his time with Pexhurst…

1.How did you come to work at Pexhurst?
At the time, my good friend, Andy Durham, was a contracts manager with Pexhurst.  He introduced me to Pexhurst and brought me on board.

2. Do you remember your first day and if so can you describe it?
My first day with Pexhurst was at a job in Oxford, a refurbishment for a company called Varian.  It was a cold morning and I met Gordon Blackwell onsite. He made me a cuppa from his van with a kettle powered from the van’s cigarette lighter socket!

I started as a temporary general labourer on a probation period before being offered a full-time contract 3 months later.  I worked closely under the Site Manager, Brian Watson and over the following weeks and months I gained more confidence and understanding of the demands of working on a Pexhurst site.  I was gradually entrusted with managing the health and safety aspects of the job and haven’t looked back since.

3. What makes Pexhurst such a great place to work?
Pexhurst is and always has been comprised of a friendly, welcoming and supportive group of people.  Some days can be more challenging than others but I feel confident in the knowledge that I work alongside some outstanding colleagues with solid principles and a great work ethos. Having worked for Managing Director Martin Vella for the past 15 years, I have built a loyal respect for him personally and Pexhurst as a whole which makes me want to turn up for work every day.

4. What has been your proudest work achievement?
My proudest work achievement was the 25-week office refurbishment project for Clearbell Capital LLP in Crawley- which I believe at the time was one of Pexhurst’s largest and most valuable! I will always look back with great pride on our achievements as despite the complexity of works, the project was a huge success. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see the handover of the project as I went on paternity leave for the birth of my little boy, but this only made the project all the more memorable!

5. What are you looking forward to next?
With the situation as it is and what it has been for the past 10 months, I think I would be speaking for many others based on construction sites when I say that I will be looking forward to getting back to normal! Where focus can be reverted back to the building detail and refurbishment of the jobs.  This for me is where the enjoyment and satisfaction of the role is found, meeting and going above and beyond our client’s expectations to safely achieve a finish that everyone can stand back and be proud of.
