Quickfire Q&A with Pexhurst’s Apprentice: Danny Beadle

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? What were you doing before joining Pexhurst?
I’ve been at Pexhurst for about 18 months now and studying a HNC in Construction Management. Before this, I was in Sixth Form studying for my A-Levels. An opportunity came about to work here and here I am now. A bit about me, in my spare time I like to socialise with friends, go to the gym and walk the dog.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship instead of a full-time university course?
My plan was to go to Uni, but I liked the idea of not having to pay for university fees and learn at the same time as working- and I think that’s a great benefit. Doing an apprenticeship as I’ve learnt is a great experience because it’s not just about education all the time, but the people that you meet and interact with along the way as well.

What do you do on a day-to-day basis?
On a day-to-day basis, I could be doing anything from tracking the programme, monitoring health and safety on-site, speaking to sub-contractors and liaising with building managers, clients and consultants. I think that’s why I enjoy this job as every day is different.

What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is probably watching the sites develop, especially at the end stages as it’s always good at the end of a project to see everyone happy that a project has been completed.

Do you have any tips for students considering an apprenticeship?
Go for it! Not only do you earn whilst you’re learning, but also education is one thing but experience and the people you get to network with and speak to throughout a project means just as much.

Where do you see yourself over the next 5 years at Pexhurst?
I’m quite open-minded, I’d like to keep going and get my degree and work my way up the ladder of management.

Just for fun: what did you want to be when you were younger?
I actually wanted to be an architect when I was younger, but then I realised it was around 7 years of Uni!
