Pexhurst’s Fourth Annual Charity Golf Day went with a swing as we fundraised a total of £3,115 for Anthony Nolan, the blood cancer and stem cell charity, and We Build the Future, the built environment sector cancer charity. Held on Friday 22nd September, the event took place at London Golf Club, Kent, with an even greater turn out than last year with 90 golfers in attendance.
We were delighted that representatives from our long-standing client base, including Cushman and Wakefield, SEGRO, Jones Hargreaves, The Arch Company, CBRE, St Modwen, Greystar and Avison Young, supported us in raising money for two worthy causes.
The morning commenced with an accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session and Q&A on the lifecycle and points of failure associated with a profile metal roof within an industrial and commercial context, providing opportunities for professionals to stay informed about the latest advancements and best practices within the industry. The teams then hit the course awaiting the claxon signifying the start of the 18-hole Shotgun Start.
Celebrating two amazing charitable causes
We Build the Future is a construction industry charity raising funds to improve prevention, detection and treatment of cancer and support industry workers.
Founded in 1974, Anthony Nolan created the world’s first stem cell register, which it uses to match potential stem cell donors to blood cancer and blood disorder patients in need of stem cell transplants. Anthony Nolan has also been providing invaluable support to one of Pexhurst’s Site Managers, Glen St Louis’ wife, Janice St Louis, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia earlier this year. Janice worked with Anthony Nolan on an appeal to raise awareness of leukaemia and encourage anyone from any background, in particular from a minority ethnic background to consider joining the stem cell register. Through her inspiring determination, she has since appeared in over 170 press publications.
A fundraising success
Our primary means of fundraising was the Silent Auction, where the amazing prizes on display were generously donated by individuals in the Pexhurst team, the London Golf Club, the Jockey Club, HD Sharman, Dave Cornell at Poppyland Brewery, Mike Rollo and Mitsubishi Electric.
The attendees were delighted with the prizes on offer, from a VIP experience for 4 at Newmarket Racecourse to a Max Verstappen-signed Red Bull Racing hat and framed Certificate of Authenticity. As a result, Pexhurst were thrilled to have fundraised a total of £3,115 for the charities.
Tom Horsfield, Community Fundraising Manager at Anthony Nolan, commented: “A huge thanks to Pexhurst for raising funds for Anthony Nolan at their 2023 charity golf day, we’re so grateful for their support.
He continued, “It costs us £40 to add a new donor to our register, so fundraising support from companies like Pexhurst is essential. Our supporters allow us to continue our lifesaving work of finding matches for more patients, in order to fulfil our vision of a future where every patient who needs us can not only survive, but thrive.”
Richard Harral, Founder of We Build the Future commented, “Thank you to Pexhurst and everyone who contributed to the fundraising for We Build the Future at the 2023 charity golf day. Every donation is important, and with the support of construction businesses like Pexhurst, we can help to build a future where more people beat cancer.”
Winners take all
The prizes on the day were awarded to Tim Clarke, Marchmont who took home the coveted 1st Place individual prize and Team Bridge won the best team score with 107 points, followed by runners-up Team Pickering with 100 points. Andrew Woodhead, EQT Exeter, won Nearest to the Pin, and Pexhurst’s own Alan Bridge triumphed with the Longest Drive. The excitement didn’t end there, as seven people ‘Beat the Pro’ on the 8th hole. We also had a professional photographer in attendance on the day taking magazine-cover style printed photos to capture the golfing experience and ensure our guests felt like a real PGA pro!
We are proud to have supported We Build the Future and Anthony Nolan by hosting our largest ever charity event, raising substantial funds which will contribute to combatting cancer, blood cancer and blood disorders.
