Do you remember your first day?
The first day is always a tough one as there is so many things to learn. I remember looking at the bespoke sub-contractor database and tender portal and being very confused as it was different to what I was previously used to….luckily with practice it gets easier!
What one piece of advice would you give yourself on that first day?
Follow the tried and trusted methods built up over many years of experience!
How has your job changed over the years?
Being a Senior Estimator at Pexhurst, I’ve noticed that the project size has grown in the time that I’ve been here. The projects have become more complex and diverse, and each tender takes longer to complete. There is also a lot more emphasis on sustainability and efficiency of buildings rather than the ‘quick fix’.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Diversity. No two projects are the same and there is always something new or interesting involved which requires some extra thought.
What’s your favourite memory over the past 10 years?
The first Pexhurst pool competition. It was a very enjoyable evening and for the final, the cue ball was substituted for a ‘crazy’ cue ball that wouldn’t roll straight- very amusing for us spectators who didn’t reach the final!
What are you looking forward to next?
Moving forward and growing into my new role as Associate Director and helping Pexhurst plan and build towards a bigger and better future.
