We’re proud to have had many members of staff stay at Pexhurst for many years – including nearly 20 in the ‘10 years at Pexhurst’ club. The latest long service anniversary is being celebrated by Driver/ Stores Dave Sanders, who’s worked with us for 15 years. We sat down with him to discuss the milestone…
1. What is your role at Pexhurst?
I am Pexhurst’s Driver/ Stores – a role that is predominantly based at head office but also requires travel to both new and active sites. The most important part of my job is ensuring that at the start of a project each site is equipped with the correct materials, equipment and PPE to run safely and efficiently. This also includes PAT testing all the plant equipment and carrying out face fittings for dust masks.
2. How have things changed in your 15 years at the company?
Naturally, the business has grown over the years making it far busier than when I first joined in 2009. My role, however, has stayed fairly consistent for the entire 15 years. There was a period of time when I thought I might like to be a site manager, but after doing a course I realised it wasn’t my cup of tea.
3. What is it like working at Pexhurst?
I think the reason why I, and so many others, stay at Pexhurst for such a long time is down to just how supportive it is as a company – Martin, our Managing Director, is just as loyal to us as we all are to him, and the company often treats us to team socials and away days. Not only does this boost morale within the team but I also see it as giving Pexhurst a great reputation as an employer.
4. What advice do you have for those looking to get started in your role?
Just to enjoy it! It’s an exciting and enjoyable industry to be a part of if you let it be.
5. What do you get up to when you’re not working?
I enjoy playing poker with my friends and family – we try and get together once or twice a month and take it in turns to host the evening. I also make an effort to take my wife on dates, whether that be to the cinema, out for a meal or anything that means we can spend time together.
6. What are your predictions for the future of the industry?
I truly believe that if the industry continues its current path, it will remain very strong for years to come.
