When the Trust looked to provide new facilities for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at its Saffron Ground location, it turned to long-standing contractor Pexhurst to turn around the demanding fit-out in double-quick time.
Working closely with the client’s nominated consultant Pellings, Pexhurst has more than met the challenges of the project, delivering the facilities on time and on budget.
As main contractor, Pexhurst has overseen all trade subcontractors on this Category B tenant fit-out, adapting internal office layouts and providing new facilities to meet the Trust’s demands. Now, open plan offices, a new reception area, private meeting rooms, toilets, and staff areas provide the Trust with a fresh, modern office environment - a significant upgrade on the previous location, which was housed in an old 1960s block.
The tight six-week timeframe for delivery proved the biggest obstacle for the team to overcome.
Pexhurst has also overseen additions to building services, including the late addition of comfort cooling which necessitated quick procurement and installation of air conditioning units. The tight timeframe also meant that Pexhurst turned to a local joinery firm to quickly deliver a bespoke reception desk, something that might usually take 6-8 weeks – time that the team simply didn’t have.
With often delicate interviews taking place in a CAMHS unit, great care had to be taken to acoustically isolate the meeting rooms. Pexhurst has utilised double glazed units containing acoustic pads in the cavities, where windows have been put into stud partitioning to bring light into meeting rooms.
